The bombarding of Hartlepool, 1914

On 16 December, 1914, the German Navy bombarded the town of Hartlepool, in north-east England.

This attack killed 130 people and injured hundreds more. A of buildings were destroyed or damaged and many of those hit are still scarred by pieces of shrapnel embedded in the walls.
