The Germans occupied Kiev September 19, 1941, surrounded and defeated the Soviet forces, who opposed the Nazis in this direction. The occupation lasted 778 days, until November 6, 1943, and led the destruction of a plurality of civilians (known tragedy at Babi Yar), the destruction of a large part of the city, including the outstanding monuments of history and architecture.
