Marilyn Monroe by Richard Avedon, 1958

Richard Avedon was born in New York on May 15th, 1923. From 1942 to 1944, Avedon served in the military service, in the US Marines. After the service, Avedon collected portfolios and became the artist of famous designer Alexey Brodovitch – an Art Director for the magazine, Harper`s Bazar. Richard Avedon began to form a new perspective on fashion, at its reflection in the magazine and advertising photos. In 1958, the 35 years old photographer, Richard Avedon, was included in the list of “10 great photographers of the world” in a magazine called “Popular Photography”. On December 22nd, 1958, Marilyn Monroe posed for Richard Avedon. He decided to make a photo session in which Monroe had to portray film stars of yesteryear. The result of that meeting was one of the most stunning photo sessions of Marilyn.
