Japanese occupaton of Hong Kong, 1941
Hong Kong surrendered to Empire of Japan on 25 December 1941 after the brief but very brutal campaign. Battle of Hong Kong lasted for 18 days. The defence of Hong Kong consisted of British, Canadian, Indian and Hong Kong Volunteer Defence forces. Nearly 4,500 British and Commonwealth soldiers were killed and 6,500 taken as prisoners of war. Empire of Japan lost 2,750 men.
