Hindenburg disaster, 1937

On May 6th, 1937, the German passanger airship LZ 129 Hindenburg (the largest dirigible ever built), bursted into flames and was destroyed, while attempting to moor at Lakehurst, New Jersey. 36 people lost their lives, and many were injured. This tragedy marked the end of the airship era.
