Falklands War, 1982
The Falklands War was a ten-week war between Argentina and the United Kingdom over two British overseas territories in the South Atlantic: the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. Argentina had long claimed these islands as part of its territory. It began on April 2nd, 1982, when Argentine troops invaded the Falkland Islands. The fighting ended on June 14th, following the British liberation of the islands’ capital, Port Stanley, and the surrender of Argentinean forces in the Falklands. This war ended with the Argentinean’s surrender on June 14th, 1982, and returning the islands to British control.
