Battle of Tannenberg, 1914

Fought between Russia and Germany, the battle of Tannenberg lasted from 26 August to 30 August, 1914 during the first month of World War I and was one of Russia’s greatest military disasters.

The battle resulted in the almost complete destruction of the Russian Second Army and the suicide of its commanding general, Alexander Samsonov.
